CHRISTMAS CAROL: THE MOVIE

Bill Whelan has teamed up with Charlotte Church in a song featured in the new animated classic "A Christmas Carol" due for release in cinemas this Christmas.
The film is the imaginative re-telling of Dicken's most enduring and moving story. This animated adaptation is framed by live-action scenes of Dickens (played by Simon Callow) recounting the story to an excited New York theatre
audience.
Featuring an all-star cast of voices, Kate Winslet, Nicolas Cage, Simon Callow, Rhys Ifans, Jane Horrocks and Michael Gambon who bring the characters to life.

The soundtrack features"Quis Est Deus", performed by Charlotte Church and written and produced by Bill Whelan. It also features the unique Monks of Glenstal Abbey Choir. The original score was written by Julian Nott with additional songs written by Steve Mack.

The film is due for release on November 30th in Ireland and the UK. The soundtrack album will be available from December 3rd.

RIVERDANCE ON BROADWAY OPENS!

Riverdance opened for a special limited engagement on Broadway at The Gershwin Theatre on March 16th 2000. With music and lyrics by Bill Whelan, produced by Moya Doherty and directed by John McColgan, the worldwide hit returns to New York with a production conceived and created especially for Broadway, featuring new performers, songs and dance numbers. Riverdance - On Broadway combines the splendour of the original production along with breathtaking new music and choreography.

Riverdance - On Broadway features a number of new songs written by Bill Whelan along with selections from the original hit show. Newcomers to the show include singers Brian Kennedy and Tsidii Le Loka. Irish singer/songwriter Brian Kennedy has performed with Van Morrison and recently three of his own albums were simultaneously in the Top 30 Irish Pop chart. Tsidii Le Loka is a Tony nominated actress best known for her role as Rifiki in Broadway's The Lion King. They are joined by the entire international company of 80 singers, including the now famous 36 member Riverdance Irish Dance Troupe, The Riverdance Orchestra, The Riverdance Singers, The Moscow Folk ballet, an African vocal ensemble and The Riverdance Tappers.

THE SEVEN AGES

Bill recently completed his specially composed score for the critically acclaimed series "The Seven Ages". A major television history series charting the birth, growth and development of the Irish state since its foundation in 1921. The seven one hour episodes are produced and directed by Sean O Mordha and broadcast on RTE and BBC Northern Ireland. Two former presidents, Patrick Hillary and Mary Robinson gave interviews as did three former Taoisigh, Garret Fitzgerald, Liam Cosgrave and Charles Haughey. With over forty major interviews, the series captures the personal experiences and mind-view of those whose lives helped shape the Ireland of today. It is a visual and oral record, a testimony from eye-witnesses both well-known and unknown of the history, politics, culture and religion of the Irish state. Bill's orchestral work entitled "The Seven Ages" is performed by the RTE Concert Orchestra conducted by PrionnsÌas ² Duinn.

Riverdance The Show opened March 2000 at The Gershwin Theatre on Broadway for a special limited engagement. Meanwhile the touring companies continue to travel across the world throughout the year 2000. The Liffey Company will perform throughout Germany, France and make a welcome return visit to Dublin this summer, back to where it all began in 1995! Later this year the Show will open for the first time in Hong Kong and Singapore, soon after they begin a 5 week tour of Japan.
